Realtors, Real Estate Agents in Costa Rica and You

Hello Everyone,

I have read with interest the perspectives concerning realtors here in Costa Rica. As you know I have written articles about real estate that I hope have been both educational and appropriate if you have been involved in a real estate transaction.

I envolved from consultant to sales and have a background as an investor in the states and here. I have been on the board of APT Associations and President of Condo Associations.

In my articles I have always suggested that you be that person that educates yourself and become aware of what a real estate transaction is composed of here in Costa Rica.

The more informed you are -the better decisions you will make and less chance you will have of being taken advantage of .

I personally feel that my obligation is to protect my client. I sit down with my client and go over the folio real printout in the registro and explain every item.

I cover the plano or survey and make sure they understand all boundaries and parameters of the survey. I do the purchase offer many times and put "conditions of sale" that will further protect my client. My lawyer and I sit down "together" and go over the legal details of the property.

I am not going to put my client in a"situation" that is not valid. Choose a realtor carefully and become involved in the process --know what is going on at all times-. Everyone in Costa Rica it seems is selling real estate . The problem is that selling real estate is not like selling a shirt but many times here it is treated as such. Be careful be informed and be involved.

Best Regards
